Wordpress again

Since upgrading to Wordpress 1.5, I have to say that I preferred it before. Now I think they're trying to make it way too clever.

There's all these functions and crap that I don't need on my blog and they take up space on my server. I don't care about auto-link-update-whatever, and if I did I wouldn't be doing it with WP. Is it too much to ask to have a simple blog tool these days? If it weren't that I like WP's design and (somewhat) simplicity, I'd jump on the whole DIY blog script bandwagon.
And their theme thing really annoys me too. If you change something, it will overwrite it when you upgrade (and since they release nightly builds, this can be often). I wanted to change one thing in the master template of another WP site I have - and guess what, you don't modify the actual coding of the page, oh no... you have to go through all the function includes to find where get_link_list() is. And WP has a lot of function includes. A whole folder of them, to be precise.

You'll also notice (if you look hard enough) that I've added a link to the archives of this blog. I've never really done anything with the archives before, but I went through them all (removing stupid teenybopper talk - yes, I was like that - and other stuff to do with what's been happening recently) and decided that maybe I should at last get them up. Right, well, enjoy.

In other news, my neighbours (who had been away for the last 3 weeks - bliss) are annoying me by having a party in the room directly above mine. Now, I wouldn't mind (actually I would... but that's besides the point) only I have a 3 hour lecture early tomorrow morning and I would quite like to get some sleep beforehand. Ok, I never usually have lectures on Wednesdays - in fact, I have never had a lecture on a Wednesday. But I do now, and these people need to shut up. Seriously. They had their fun at the bar; they don't need to carry it on here. Grrr.

Eep, Claire's back ^__^ Must say I forgot she should have lived nextdoor to me this year (instead I get some noisy chav girl) so yeah. She's been through a lot, as have I... Seems like a lot more than 8 months since I last saw her. Bleh. Anyway. Gonna find some earplugs. Night y'all.

I hate Dreamweaver.

I really don't know how I used to cope with using pagebuilders. Seriously... I'm having to use Dreamweaver for an assignment and it is really REALLY annoying me. Whenever I want to code stuff manually (which I prefer to do anyway, instead of rooting through all the menus to find the thing I want) it adds stupid tags in that don't need to be there. Whenever you finish writing a tag it adds in the closing tag. Say for example you forgot to put a link somewhere, so you're typing the <a href="whatever" around the text you want to link. Then you type the final > and straight away it 'helpfully' writes </a> for you. I don't want the </a> there! I want it at the end of my text!!! AAAAAHHH! *beats it*

So yeah, could have got this stupid project finished ages ago if it wasn't for having to use this program. Grrr.
And they say Dreamweaver's the best program out there... Well, I used to use Frontpage (5 years ago!) and although that still holds the crown for Most Annoying Web Page Designing Program (TM, lol!) DW is coming pretty close. It might try to make things easier for me by adding in a bunch of stuff it thinks I need, but at least it makes sure my code is valid and that it's cross-browser compatible. Unlike FP. FP had a habit of putting <font> tags around every single piece of text it could find, and when you tried to define stuff in CSS, it complained.

Ok I'm done.

/rant.

[EDIT] Grrr, what is up with my server's clock? It keeps changing time, so everytime I log into all my scripts and change the offset, it changes AGAIN and the time's wrong yet AGAIN. Gaaaah *pulls out hair* [/EDIT]

Well I've been doing a lot of work on my form script recently (actually it's not mine - it's just the one I use, but I've modified it so much you probably wouldn't recognise the original :P ) and I think I may have made it spam proof now. If you try and send something from the contact or hosting pages and it doesn't work, let me know - I want to see if there are still any bugs anywhere.

Eep, I know more PHP than I thought I did.

[EDIT] I now have 50 Gmail invites if anyone wants one!!! Email if you're interested [/EDIT]
