Don't know what to blog about...

I have nothing very interesting to say, so I'm going to talk about the weather and other random bits and pieces no one really cares about.

  • It's raining.
  • A chav just went past my house and spat on the floor (as they do).
  • Safari for Windows still won't work for me. I upgraded to the latest beta but it still crashes when I try to open it. Apparently this is the same problem as with iTunes for Windows or something and it involves older processors not understanding some instruction or other. Meh, not buying that - works fine for people with older processors than me. is FINALLY working. With the upgrade to 3.0.2 I can use it, but half my bookmarks don't work. Grrr.
  • I think there will be a storm soon.
  • I am going to Florida in just over 2 weeks! :D :D :D WOOO. The last time I went to the US was when I was 1, which obviously I don't remember, so I'm thinking of it as my first time. The boyfriend's family are very kindly taking me, so thanks to them :)
  • ...it's still raining.

This entry brought to you by boredom and the number 7.
(10 points for you if you get the reference there, heh)

Note to self

Next time you freak out about there being dust in your computer, do not attempt to take it apart because you will break it.

...this stems from me being a complete clean freak as far as my laptop is concerned. I take it apart regularly and clean the fan and all the other random bits and pieces. The only part I'd never done was the heatsink (the bit that cools the processor). In removing the heatsink, I managed to tear out the processor (which was not supposed to come out - it was locked into the motherboard with a switch that was accessible after the heatsink and cooling system was removed) because it was stuck to the heatsink with some heatsink paste (stuff meant to help cool everything down, not meant to stick).

Two hours later, I had a dead computer and a processor which would not go back into place because half of its pins were bent (due to aforementioned wrenching). I managed to eventually get them straightened out and separate the heatsink from the processor in order to put everything back together, but my poor laptop still wouldn't work :( I prodded it a bit and realised I'd put the fan back on upside down. Correcting this meant I had a working laptop once more.

Needless to say, I got laughed at by others who know far more about this sort of thing than I do. >.< ...I believe I have learned my lesson.

(Though having said that, I was very slightly hoping my computer had permanently died so I could get a new one :P )

Uni, PHPAskIt, funny dates and other blurb

I had my final university exam this morning. I have no idea if it went well or not, the questions were badly worded and rather confusing so I answered them as best I could. If it didn't pass then oh well. Buuuut... That is it. That is the end of university forever! :D Assuming I've passed everything, obviously. But yeah, I'm done. Now the job search starts. *Snore*

Now that studying is done and out of the way, work on PHPAskIt 3.0 will be stepping up. It's almost finished as it is, but I'm wondering if perhaps there needs to be more done to it... Anyone got any suggestions on things they want to see? Most of what has already been suggested both at CodeGrrl and on my previous PAI blog entry have already been implemented.

Also... Is anyone good with AJAX, and willing to contribute to PHPAskIt? Obviously since PAI is a free script this wouldn't involve payment, but I would just need some guidance from an AJAXy wiz if one is available. I've tried doing some AJAX myself and whilst I was moderately successful, I don't really want to put out some JS that will most likely break or be full of security holes because I'm not very good at it.

...has anyone noticed the date today? For people who write the short form of the date in day/month/year format, today is 05/06/07. At 9 minutes past 8 and 10 seconds this morning it was 05/06/07 08:09:10, heh. For those who write the date in month/day/year format, 05/06/07 happened on the 6th of May. Either way, slightly amusing. Woooo

Oh and I've decided the tag cloud will stay for now. I'm going to try and make it all colourful and pretty and stuff and if I can't do that then the ugliness of it right now will be gone (promise) :P Thank you all for your feedback.
