STOP CALLING ME.

I've blogged about how much I hate cold callers before, but this one is really taking it too far.

My phone provider calls EVERY DAY. Technically this is not considered cold calling since we have their services or whatever, but they keep asking for my landlords when I have told them numerous times that they cannot be found here. They won't talk to me personally because I don't own the line, so WHY won't they take a note of the fact that I CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR THEM? I have told them how to contact my landlords. I have told them that the property is rented out and the line with it. Do they listen? Of course not.

The stupid thing is, I can't change the phone provider because of the renting situation thing (normally the phone is connected by the person renting, not the landlord, however because of 3875928375928735982735 problems occurring when I tried to do it, landlord had to) nor can I do anything about them calling me twice a day every single day (and no, I don't answer any more. If the person really wants to contact me, they'll leave a message). ARGH.

...and ARGH #2: I've just found out that I completely misread one of my university assignments. Instead of the deadline being at the end of next week like I thought, it's actually on Wednesday morning. That's in a day and a half. I haven't started yet and this is a complete project that needs to be done. GAH!

"I wrote my own CMS!1!!"

It amazes me how many people claim to have written their own CMS. Really.

Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for those who can do it; it's not a task to take on lightly and it takes time to get right - you need a fair amount of programming knowledge and all that.

So when I come across people who rip off the CodeGrrl Build-A-Blog tutorial series word for word and claim to have written "their own CMS", it annoys me.

Firstly: No, you didn't write a CMS. You copied a load of code off a website, plonked it on your server, added your own layout and voilà! Instant CMS. Did you credit the tutorial? No. Did you change any of the defaults to make it even look like you wrote your own code? No.

Secondly: I know there are debates about this, however, to me, a CMS - Content Management System - is just that. It manages CONTENT. In my view, a CMS should be the central admin panel of your site, you should be able to add posts, pages, change settings, etc. If you use the Build-A-Blog tutorials, you aren't creating a CMS, you're creating a blogging platform.

I have absolutely no problem with those people who use Build-A-Blog for what it's for - building a blog. What I do have a problem with is people who copy the tutorials exactly as they are without bothering to read what each part does or why it's necessary and then claim they "wrote their own CMS". If you're going to do that, at least take out the default text I added to those tutorials, it'll look less obvious that way.

Edit: Ha! Jem wrote something along the same lines at the same time as me! OMG STEALER!!!11

So here's a new layout.

It's not the one I was originally going to use, but I like this one better. Ok so it's purple/blue/white again but I can't seem to work with any other colours. Grrr.

Thanks to Jem for the flower photo (and yes, they're meant to look like that! They were awkward in shape, it's not that I cut them out wrong :P )

Um, yeah. Some things don't work, I'll fix those at some point. If you find any bugs, let me know. I've tested this in IE6/7, FF, Konqueror and Opera, but I don't have any other browsers. I was going to try and get to a Mac today to try in Safari but that didn't happen so meh.

Happy (50th!) birthday Mum! Ahaha, she won't like me giving her age away but oh well :P
