So here's a new layout.
It's not the one I was originally going to use, but I like this one better. Ok so it's purple/blue/white again but I can't seem to work with any other colours. Grrr.
Thanks to Jem for the flower photo (and yes, they're meant to look like that! They were awkward in shape, it's not that I cut them out wrong :P )
Um, yeah. Some things don't work, I'll fix those at some point. If you find any bugs, let me know. I've tested this in IE6/7, FF, Konqueror and Opera, but I don't have any other browsers. I was going to try and get to a Mac today to try in Safari but that didn't happen so meh.
Happy (50th!) birthday Mum! Ahaha, she won't like me giving her age away but oh well :P

The flowers... well they're hardly noticed, since they're so close to the top of the page so it doesn't readdly bother me.
I especially like the shadow effect and keep wondering how you did it. No don't tell me. Congrats! :D

sorry for the double comment, but I noticed in FF, your Introduction page (about section) doesn't look good. There's no content background, and the header text exists the main content box a bit.

It's a lot like the other design, but that's okay. I really like the structure, the rounded edges, and the way the blog entries are set up (with the title, date, etc. to the left).

Hooray, nice layout but why are there hover effects on the comments? They are pointless and annoying, as well as distracting - save them for buttons and links please.
Your dad's birthday is the day before mine, interestingly.

Heh, yeah - that's because they're honeysuckle flowers (I think? It's Jem's photo) and they have long stalk things. I had to flip the image to get it to fit, and I was going to remove the "tampon strings" but I forgot :P I'll try and do it tomorrow if I have time.

the only thing is in this very page that I'm commenting on, the footer thing that says "Site map | Accessibility information ...." is not aligned propertly on the right side. it overflows.

Ah, you must be using IE6... I haven't got that browser (I have IE7 and I did check in there) so I wasn't able to see whether or not it worked. Will fix when I can steal my boyfriend's computer (with IE6) again :)
Edit: This is now fixed, along with the transparent PNG issue in the blog entry details. Thanks for letting me know!

Pretty. I think I like this one to the last; I like the little CSS tricks you use for the comments and blog entries. It makes the layout seem more complete.
