My car (well, boyfriend's really, but shhh) failed its MOT this morning (required annual test for cars 3+ years of age in the UK). :(
It's now illegal to drive it until it gets repaired (£700 plz) and retested, which can't happen until I have some more funds (er, won't happen for a little while yet).
It's at times like this you realise just how accustomed you've become to something... Maybe this is a sign that I really should get off my lazy backside and walk more places :P

DAMMIT YOU NEED A EDIT COMMENT ABILITY. D:
I was going to suggest the possibility of you having a bicycle or something, maybe?

Editing comments is for wimps. :D
And yeah, we were thinking of the bike thing... Went past a Halfords on the way there, if we'd known it might have been an idea to pop in :P

Get a really cute vintage looking bike, like the kind I want. Wow, wouldn't that make my life more spiffy? *lusts*

Walking is good, how about taking it as a form of exercise? Maybe it wouldn't be that bad? ;)

You don't mention what your boyfriends car failed on but if it would cost £700 to repair you might want to ask yourself if the car is actually worth repairing (again don't know how old the car is).
I gave up on my last car when it cost over £300 for welding work (and that was done on the cheap by a friend). Being without a car can be a hassle at first but you soon get use to it.

^ The car is 4 years old and we are getting second opinions about the repairs needed (the garage we went to is known for trying to rip people off... Unfortunately boyfriend didn't know that when he booked the car in) :P I'm pretty sure we can find places that will do the repairs (brakes, bearings, tyres) more cheaply.

You certainly don't want to scrap a four year old car, you can certainly get things like tyres cheap (even if you go for budget ones - take a look at blackcircles.com I have used them in the past), as for brakes certain garages will try to force you to have the brake disks replaced - other garages will be more than happy to just change the pads which can considerable lower the cost (or you can get some pads from a local motor factors and do the work yourself). As for bearings that might be time consuming but again I am sure you could get the work done a lot cheaper.

That garage is SERIOUSLY off. We have an extraordinarily cheap garage, but even so, for our 11+ year old car, the bills have never been above £300, even when failing the MOT.

Major rip off. As Rachaely said, get a bike or something. My brother has a ped and it only costs about £5 for a tank of petrol, and it lasts him for ages.
I suppose you'd get a normal bike, though. Couldn't imagine you riding a ped ;)

It's a sign of the government having a little too much power... blah
Sorry, hope you get it taken care of quickly.

Hm, I'm going to have to agree with Sarah in the fact that you should fly to work from now on. I'm sure your abs will get a nice workout from that!
Sorry about your car, though. I know exactly what you are going through!
