Happy birthday to me!

I appear to have had a birthday today... And with it, came a brand new shiny laptop! :D My four-year-old one was really starting to give up (especially the screen) so I thought it was about time it was replaced. I now have a Toshiba Equium Dual Core 1.73GHz/2GB RAM/120GB HDD/15.4" widescreen/Windows Vista laptop. Its brightness makes me realise just how bad the screen from the last one was getting... I had both laptops on next to each other and it seemed like the old one wasn't even on.

I also got a digital photoframe from the boyfriend :D It's brilliant! You put in a memory card and it'll do a slideshow of the pictures. It'll also do alarm clocks and stuff but I'm not really interested in that... The fact that I can have a picture frame that changes its photo whenever I want (it even has a remote control for that XD ) is enough to keep me entertained for ages :D :D :D

Anyway, back to the laptop... Ooooooooh it's nice. The fact that it goes higher than 1024×768 is great - my photos fit on my screen now :P But like I said, it has Windows Vista on it. URGH. If I had an XP disk I'd install that on there - Vista is really quite rubbish. Ok so it looks shiny, but I can't find anything in it and most stuff that was simple in XP and prior is stupidly difficult in Vista. GAH. The fact that I can't change the colour of the taskbar is very annoying, as is the lack of themes and customisations. I don't want a black taskbar, I don't want weird blue-ish/transparent windows with huge borders, I want my own theme kthx. >:(

Apart from that, it's wonderful and I love it lots. <3<3<3<3 :D

Happy birthday Amelie! Congrats on the new laptop!

Arg, Vista doesn't look too exciting to me. It's like XP with an OS-X/Linux inspired interface and heaps of annoying crap. I'm gonna request that my next PC have XP on it, unless Vista is absolutely necessary.

Happy Birthday! And congratz on your new laptop! My next computer is gonna be a MacBook though - I've pretty much had enough of Windows. But I'll have to wait til next year for that...

Happy Birthday! When I got my new laptop last November, luckily it was only Vista Ready but it wasn't installed! The photo frame thing is really neat. I can't see paying the price for them but they are pretty darn neat!

    @Louise
Microsoft won't be supporting XP much longer so my guess is, it will be really hard to buy XP let alone have it come with a new computer.

@ Jamie: It'll be at least another 18 months to two years before they stop supporting XP; give it till Vista SP1, if not SP2 :)

Happy belated birthday! The Toshiba Equiums are great, my boyfriends sister has a slightly older model that you, and it 's still working great. I tried to rebuild it a couple of weeks back; kept dying when I installed Windows Updates (there where around 200 of the blighters). Ended up having to install 5 updates at a time and now it works like a gem. You have shiny Vista on it, though so I'm sure you'll have no problems like that :D

^ Yeah, it'll be a while before they stop supporting XP. I think they only stopped supporting 98 about a year or so ago :P

    Happy Birthday!

Yay for the new laptop. I've got vista for dummies on order from Amazon - I'll let you know if there's anything of use in there.

Sorry I'm late! Happy belated birthday, Amelie.

My dad just bought a Toshiba laptop with the same features, and he seems to be having a long time getting used to Vista. That is creepy.

    @ Amelie and Louise
I heard it will be really soon that they are gonna stop supporting XP. I heard it from my father and he usually keeps up to date on these things, but who knows!

    ** EDIT TO ABOVE **

Ahh found a link. Seems the original idea was to only support XP until 2009 but they've extended that until 2014 http://www.crn.com/software/197000329

Oh have a very belated happy birthday from me too :-)
New laptop? Seems like it's the season for change (hehe I just got myself a new desktop computer as well... not a fan of laptops :P). May it server you long and well.

Ah yes the miracle of over 1024×768px. I still can't believe that my browser almost never sidescrolls (if maximized).
