Ah, creativity

New theme. Doesn't work properly in IE *cough*use a better browser*cough* (IE issue fixed, but that's no excuse for still using it! Upgrade! - Thanks Jenny). Photos used with permission from Jem.

I start my work placement tomorrow, and am not in bed (should've gone at least two hours ago). Instead trying to fix this layout in IE, but of course IE's a piece of poo and won't listen to anything I tell it. Grrrrr. Still have a lot to do before bed. *Sigh* Lots of stuff needs fixing here, so don't complain about things not working. I'll do it tomorrow.

PS: Happy birthday Mum!

Apparently I don't blog enough.

According to Jem, I don't blog enough. So just for Jem, here is an entry. :P

I am having weird browser issues with the greyscale theme (the default one). First the numbers next to the comments disappeared in Opera when I upgraded to version 8.54, then the blog title arrow thing disappeared in IE. WTF?! Now, IE users have never been able to see the numbers next to the comments, because of the way my CSS works and how IE displays its ordered lists. Basically the gravatar image ends up covering the number, and no matter what I did it wouldn't work without screwing up in other browsers. But Opera always used to show the numbers, I don't get why it's suddenly stopped now... I know it's to do with the image again (if I take out the float: left; everything is fine, but if I put it back or change it to float: right; it disappears) but I don't know how to fix it. Grrr. And as for the title bullet, IE is refusing to display it without a background colour. It refuses transparent, none, or inherit - it MUST be an actual colour. Whaaat? It was working fine before I condensed all my background stuff into one property, but I tried putting it back into the separate ones and it still won't work. Grrrrrrr.
Anyway, Firefox is still behaving, as I hope is Safari (don't have a Mac, can't check) and all the rest of the browsers I don't have. It's just IE and Opera that seem to have forgotten how to do things. *Grumble*

I need to redesign this site completely. Revamp and rejig of content and stuff. I need to delete the whole thing and start again, that's the only way I actually manage to do it. If I just go through what I already have and try and improve it, it just ends up staying the same or looking even worse. Boo.

Oh yeah, and also according to Jem, I don't link her enough. So here are a few plugs to go with the other 5 or so that she has on my homepage alone. :P

Spam, spam, spam, spam and yet more spam

Yesterday the contact forms on my design site were spammed 30 times in the space of half an hour. *Tears hair out* For now, I've put up NL-PHPMail which I've been updating for CG but apprently the captcha still doesn't stop the spammers. Grrrr. I don't know how to use the PHP GD libraries to make complicated images, but if anyone else can then feel free to tell me how...
The stupid thing is that all 30 of these spams only contained a random American city in the URL field. There were no comments whatsoever, no links, no advertising enlargement/medical products, nothing. All there was (apart from a random name and email address that seemed to end in either Green, Miller or Scott) was the city. So I get all these forms filling up my inbox and all they say is "Boston", "NY", "Miami" and other similar cities... Is that pointless or what? There wasn't even any point to it since they weren't trying to sell me a product or increase their Google pagerank or anything. Gah.

Right so I'm back "home" (at my parents') for a week. Rather bored. Got yet another attempt at The Driving Test on Monday, not confident about it but we'll see how it goes.

Oh further to my last post on IE7, I discovered that apart from its CSS being slightly more advanced, it's still as rubbish as IE6 - it still doesn't display <acronym> tags properly and has a huge amount of other errors that I can't be bothered to mention. Oh but it has tabbed browsing and RSS subscription functionality! *Gasp* Wow! /sarcasm
I can see it now - all the n00bs will get confused and say "lyke omg I prefered IE6!!!1" - I know a few people who've already said that to me, haha.

Edit: It's not stopping! Even though I changed the forms and everything - the spam continues! Turns out I'm having to delete the form from the server completely. Dammit. I had renamed it in the hope of being able to work on it later, but apparently that's not good enough. Now I'm getting a ton of 404 error reports on my site for spammers looking for any sort of form script to abuse. They haven't found NL-PHPMail yet though. I hope the image verification will be enough to keep them away from it.
The amount of email spam I get is absolutely ridiculous. I don't need form spam making it worse, thanks.
