Obligatory New Year Post

So, 2009 eh? Would anyone mind telling me where 2008 went? It must have gone somewhere, as a brief recap shows I did the following:

  • Moved house
  • Crashed a car
  • Called 999 (UK emergency number) for the first time
  • Went to Vegas
  • Met Rachael
  • Sat on my bum a lot

Hmmm, come to think of it, that's not an awful lot... Oh dear :P

2009 for me will be ... intriguing. There are a lot of things which I want to do but I don't know if any of them will be possible.

In a couple of weeks, Amanda is coming to the UK, so hopefully there will be a big meet-up for all UK Snark members which will be geeky and fun. :D Here's hoping none of them are nasty paedo types ¬_¬

There is also the small matter of a wedding to plan... That's right, the boyfriend and I are engaged :D :D :D WHEEEEEE. Neither of us likes making big fusses about stuff, so it will most likely be a small low-key ceremony. *Bounce* When that will happen, I have no idea. Maybe it will be this year, maybe not... Who knows :P

One thing I must do this year is to get a dishwasher. I am USELESS when it comes to washing up and I tend to leave nasty dirty dishes lying around everywhere because a lot of the time I don't have time to wash them (excuses, excuses...). Another thing I must also do is get some curtains for the rest of the house... We moved in over 6 months ago and so far still only have curtains in 1 room.

I think I must make one of these resolution thingies for this year... Be less lazy. *Nod*

Now then, a question for you... Is it really sad to be more excited about an ancient computer (the one in question being a 1994 486 - just so happens to be the first Windows computer I ever used) than you are about your Christmas presents? If so, then I am totally sad. :P

I really must attempt to blog more than once every 3 weeks. However, the delay is justified... I am in the middle of moving house (or trying to - looking for a place and visiting stuff at every free moment I possibly have) and have had barely any time to sit still for the past month or so.

Anyway. Thank you for your comments on the layout, I had no idea people hated the last one as much as they did. Next time it might be an idea if you told me this, mmmkay. I'll do something about the too-dark dropshadows and link hovery stuff when I have a moment and possibly format the entries differently since it's exactly the same as with the old layout, and that's boring.

Also, I have a request. Can people PLEASE learn to read? On my FAQ, there is a question box at the top of the page. It is clearly marked as such. At the bottom (ish, more like the middle) of the page, there is a search box, also clearly marked as such. STOP CONFUSING THEM. I am sick and tired of deleting one-word "questions" because people can't read. >:(

Um, yeah. Now I will probably disappear for another month or so.

Edit: Comments closed early on this post because of excessive spam. Let me know if you have something to add and I'll re-enable them.

How to break your new laptop in 6 easy steps

You will need the following tools:

  1. A week-old laptop, present from relatives preferred
  2. Um...that's it

Note: no brain is required for the purposes of this tutorial.

Method:

  1. Make sure you have finally finished customising and configuring your new laptop after having spent the last week getting lost in its preinstalled Windows Vista.
  2. Decide to be geeky and install a second Operating System. You have done this before (it was a fluke, but no one has to know that) so this should be no problem at all.
  3. Run through installation of said Operating System, making sure not to miss the part about partitioning the hard drive.
  4. Yay, new OS installed. Reboot! Windows will then say it cannot run.
  5. Realise you have completely messed up the partitioning and therefore have chopped Windows in half. Rectify this mistake by simply deleting and reformatting the partitions of the hard drive that you want back.
  6. Reboot! Your computer should now display a lovely error message saying the boot partition is corrupted or similar. Congratulations, you have now completed this tutorial.

Oh yes, that was me yesterday. I've had this laptop a week and I've broken it already. Luckily I was able to repair most of the damage without reinstalling everything (yay rescue disk) but some things (e.g. wireless) are still broken :( Blah.
