Apparently I don't blog enough.

According to Jem, I don't blog enough. So just for Jem, here is an entry. :P

I am having weird browser issues with the greyscale theme (the default one). First the numbers next to the comments disappeared in Opera when I upgraded to version 8.54, then the blog title arrow thing disappeared in IE. WTF?! Now, IE users have never been able to see the numbers next to the comments, because of the way my CSS works and how IE displays its ordered lists. Basically the gravatar image ends up covering the number, and no matter what I did it wouldn't work without screwing up in other browsers. But Opera always used to show the numbers, I don't get why it's suddenly stopped now... I know it's to do with the image again (if I take out the float: left; everything is fine, but if I put it back or change it to float: right; it disappears) but I don't know how to fix it. Grrr. And as for the title bullet, IE is refusing to display it without a background colour. It refuses transparent, none, or inherit - it MUST be an actual colour. Whaaat? It was working fine before I condensed all my background stuff into one property, but I tried putting it back into the separate ones and it still won't work. Grrrrrrr.
Anyway, Firefox is still behaving, as I hope is Safari (don't have a Mac, can't check) and all the rest of the browsers I don't have. It's just IE and Opera that seem to have forgotten how to do things. *Grumble*

I need to redesign this site completely. Revamp and rejig of content and stuff. I need to delete the whole thing and start again, that's the only way I actually manage to do it. If I just go through what I already have and try and improve it, it just ends up staying the same or looking even worse. Boo.

Oh yeah, and also according to Jem, I don't link her enough. So here are a few plugs to go with the other 5 or so that she has on my homepage alone. :P

Firefox 1.5 CSS bugs

I downloaded Firefox 1.5 RC1 on Monday. They've been plugging it for a while on the Firefox download page, and while I did get one of the alpha versions a while back, I stayed with 1.0.x. Now that all my extensions and themes seemed to be compatible, I decided to switch.

Anyway. Since the switch, nothing's really changed... A few new features here and there, otherwise not to different from 1.0.x. But... There seems to be a margin bug in 1.5 that wasn't there before. Example: if you're using FF 1.5, see the bottom of this page (press End to go directly there). See how the background seems to jump slightly to the right? That doesn't happen in any other browser (except IE, but IE can be hacked). So... what to do? I changed the margins of the footer so that the background would match, but then it looks out of place on Opera and Firefox 1.0+. I did search around for some tips, but it seems no one else has picked up on this. *Sigh* I might have to wait for RC2 to come out for this to be fixed... I hope not, since I hate it when my site doesn't look right, but oh well.

Edit: Hmmm, I think I fixed it... I aligned the background all the way to the left instead of the middle, then used a wider left margin. I tested it in IE 6, FF 1.0.7, FF 1.5 and Opera 8.5. Let me know if it still looks wrong to you. :)

Finally got round to fixing stupid skinning/cookie problems. Still having problems with Opera, but I think that's to do with my settings.
Anyway, you should now find you can visit the site with or without the www and the skin you chose will still show up.

Wordpress annoyances, part 3525237: grrr. I changed one thing, so it would stop putting wwws back in my url, and it goes all crazy on me. It is way too complicated for its own good, in my opinion. Sure, leave the features as they are but don't include them in 50 function files. Just put them in the main file. Example: I wanted to change my comments link, so I go to edit my template. But oh no, the comment link is made up of some function which I have to trawl all the functions folder to find. >:( Bah.

Right. Must read a text for a lecture, help the boyfriend with his site, and let the cleaner in. Then go to 3 and a half hour lecture. Great day looms.
